Permacomputing
Meet
Up

The Berlin Permacomputing Meet-Up is a semi-regular meeting to discuss the practice of Permacomputing in and around Berlin, Germany.

Our meetings are convivially hosted by offline.place.

Even if we are extremely serious and feel some urgency about our work, our meetings generally have a low-key, participation-oriented format.

We strive to include interested participants of all knowledge and experience levels. Some of us are rather "techie" but non-nerd-identified and perma-curious people are especially welcome.

* A Permacomputing Berlin Workshop *

Many of us have old phones or tablets sitting in a drawer at home. They might have a dead battery or broken screen that keep us from using them, but in theory they are still quite functional computers. Imagine if we could install a new operating system and make them useful for new purposes: a tiny web site, small home server, media player, sensor station or even stranger, more poetic things. Thanks to efforts like PostmarketOS this is possible, but it can be intimidating and confusing.

In this workshop, we will attempt to install the Linux-based PostmarketOS on "obsolete" Android devices and find convivial new uses for them. This event will be more of a collective hacking and experimentation session than a traditional pedagogical instruction format. We can't promise to make every old device work again but we can offer a fun, informative and supportive environment.

As we know that this is a technical subject, we strive to include interested participants of all knowledge and experience levels. We especially welcome people from non-technical backgrounds with adjacent interests in sustainability, permaculture and alternative computing practices.

Places are limited to 15 participants, so please RSVP by e-mail. Bring any old android phones, tablets or chromebooks and we will try our collective best to regenerate them!

The workshop is free of charge but for those who can afford it, we suggest a 10-20€ donation to help us fund future efforts.
