The Berlin Permacomputing Meet-Up is a semi-regular meeting to discuss the practice of Permacomputing in and around Berlin, Germany.
Our meetings are convivially hosted by offline.place.
Even if we are extremely serious and feel some urgency about our work, our meetings generally have a low-key, participation-oriented format.
We strive to include interested participants of all knowledge and experience levels. Some of us are rather "techie" but non-nerd-identified and perma-curious people are especially welcome.
NEXT Meeting DITHERING HEIGHTS18. May 2025 at 19:00 Image dithering was once a clever trick for digital imaging on limited hardware in the 1980s. It largely faded from memory as higher power graphic hardware become more ubiquitous. But recently, among those of us interested in a smaller more efficient web, it is having a bit of a renaissance. However, it's not without its critics. This PMC Berlin session will demonstrate and discuss techniques and styles for making images as small as possible. Florian Stolzenhain will bring his ancient Mac and show us some possibilities. We will have a general discussion of limited-palette aesthetics, dirt-style compression and dithering discontents. Florian an empathic senior dev who likes to write and talk. He prides himself being called both a hippie and an anarchist by well-meaning clients and colleagues.
